Indestructible Hulk #2 Review

I am a huge fan of Mark Waid, his run on Daredevil so far has been amazing. So when I heard that he would be writing "Indestructible Hulk" I got extremely excited. This was my most anticipated book for "Marvel NOW!" and so far it hasn't disappointed. 

This issue is both a team up issue and a versus issue. It focuses on the relationship between Tony Stark and Bruce Banner. When the issue starts out we see Bruce getting settled into a temporary S.H.I.E.L.D lab, after striking a deal with Director Maria Hill in the previous issue to become an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Tony Stark decides that he will pay Bruce a visit to see what is going on. We see a multiple of different interaction between him and Bruce, including them joking around and also discussing experiments. Tony is constantly interrogating Bruce about "Why he has decided to join S.H.I.E.L.D". Also whether or not he can control his emotions and the "green guy". There is obvious tension between the two, Tony has never trusted Bruce, he also thinks of him as more of a danger than anything else. Bruce knows this and does not like it. He is sick of Tony being the hero and treating him like nothing. This all comes to a head when the two of them go to test out Bruce's latest invention, a "gamma-fracker". It works however Tony decides to tamper with it and this does not make Bruce happy. He transforms into the Hulk and attacks Tony. This meant that Tony was not able to finish tampering with the machine and in doing so has sent it into overdrive. As it explodes Hulk grabs and saves Tony, leaving him with a new found respect for Bruce.

This was a really interesting issue. I loved seeing the different aspects of the relationship between Tony and Bruce. As well as seeing all that pent up anger Bruce has toward Tony finally being released. Mark Waid does an outstanding job of displaying this with smooth dialogue, it's an interesting character study that lets us readers know that he has a good understanding of Bruce Banner. Usually when you read and "Incredible Hulk" book the story line focuses around Bruce trying to find a cure for the Hulk. It's nice to see him finally embrace the Hulk and take control of his life. It was an extremely enjoyable and fun issue to read. Mark Waid is doing exactly what he did for Daredevil to the Hulk and I'm loving every minute of it! 

The art in this book is fantastic; Leinil Yu's rendition of the Hulk is a memorable one. He does a great job with making the transitions between panels is smooth. Characters emotions are displayed well along with their body language. This helps a lot in the interactions between Tony and Bruce. The action is a lot better in this issue than the previous, this time we can actually separate character as well as their actions. The colors a bright and vibrant making each panel a pleasure to look at. The only problem I have is occasionally the shading to Bruce is a little overdone, it makes him look evil and that is really not what the story suggests. 

Overall a great issue, I'd definitely recommend this to any fans of Mark Waid's style of writing. As well as anyone who wants to read a different, bright and interesting Hulk story. It's not another repetitive rendition of the Hulk and it's for that reason it is so good. Pick this up!
