Toy Fair 2018: Saban Brands & Bandai Part Ways!

This year is the 25th Anniversary of  Saban’s Power Rangers, a franchise that is well known for it's toyline. From the sellout days of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to the Legacy Line, to the 25th season of Power Rangers: Super Ninja Steel one name has been synonymous with the line, Bandai until today. Just before Toy Fair 2018 kicks off Saturday February 17th, Saban Brands announced the two will be parting ways as of April 2019.

After a successful 25-year partnership building the iconic action franchise, Power Rangers, Saban Brands and Bandai have mutually agreed not to renew their global Power Rangers master toy license agreement, effective April 2019. Bandai will continue to support Power Rangers, including the 2018 commemoration of the Power Rangers 25th anniversary and the current season, Super Ninja Steel. In addition, Bandai, through its partnership with Toei Company Ltd., will continue to exploit toy rights for the Super Sentai series, which has enjoyed over 40 years of success, in Japan and select other Asian territories.

What does this mean for this iconic line? Who can replace Bandai? Will the Legacy Line end? With Toy Fair 2018 (February 17-20) just around the corner I am sure we will find out answers to these and more questions very soon. For years fans have constantly compared the Bandai Japan Super Sentai toys to the Bandai America Power Rangers toys, you can expect whatever company that takes over this contract will find itself compared to Bandai Japan's Sentai line even more.

Another interesting thing to note is that Bandai America was consulted by Toei for their 2017 series Uchu Sentai Kyuranger. This lead many fans to believe that this will be the next series to be adapted for Power Rangers' 26th season in 2019. With this announcement many fans will be wondering what series will be next given that many prefer the 2016 series Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger and others still holding out that the 2013 series Ressha Sentai ToQger or the 2012 series Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters will be translated.
