All-New X-Factor #1 Review

By: Jay Reyes

Peter David's legendary run on X-Factor will go down as one of the best X-books ever. But can he keep up his X-Factor momentum with the All-New X-Factor?

X-FACTOR IS BACK…LIKE NEVER BEFORE! Serval Industries, one of the world’s most trusted names in electronics and leader in cutting-edge internet and weapons technology, has just unveiled their newest contribution to society…the All-New X-Factor. Led by the Mutant Mistress of Magnetism, Polaris, the team uses its corporate backing for the betterment of society. With her half-brother Quicksilver, notorious thief, Gambit, and more by her side, can Polaris trust that her corporate masters really have good intentions?

The Good: This is a solid starting point for future stories to come. With a witty cast and fun dialogue this series can potentially be a stand out series for Marvel. Any book that puts Gambit and Quicksilver in the same room deserves at least a one issue try.

I have a spot in my heart for Gambit because of the animated series, so I love when he gets the main focus of any story. I look forward to seeing what his future is in this series.

The Bad: While I did like Polaris, I would have preferred her backstory be explained better. She's related to Quicksilver, so what's next? That explanation as to why Quicksilver is there felt contrived to me. Another thing that bugged me character wise was the team itself. I love Gambit and Quicksilver but I want more than a three man team. The cover indicates maybe two more characters joining the team so hopefully that can be resolved in future issues.

The Art for this book is not my cup of tea, which is a shame because I really love the cover art.
hopefully we get a new artist soon. Another problem I had was with the villain, I was super confused on who he was and what he did, a Doctor versus a team of Mutants does not seem like a fair fight.  (spoiler alert) After X-Factor beats Hoffman hopefully Fatale joins the team.

Overall:  This series has the potential to be great, so hopefully Peter David continues the trend of X-Factor being the best X-book. My hope is by the end of this story arc Polaris will be a little more fleshed out, there will be a more well rounded team, and Fatale will have a strong role in this book.
