Published by Top Cow’s imprint Minotaur Press, Shotgun Wedding is a mini-series about
love, loss and revenge. Writer William Harms (Impaler) and artist Edward Pun (Ninja
High School) introduce us to our protagonist, assassin and Mike Stone. It’s
his wedding day and everyone shows up… and unfortunately for him I mean
everyone – friends, enemies and disgruntled ex-fiancées alike.
Sometimes people make mistakes. Stone’s was dating his ex-fiancé Chloe… or, even worse, leaving her at the altar. Now, he wants to marry the woman of his dreams, second grade teacher Denise. But Chloe won’t allow it without a firefight.
Harm’s talks about his inspiration for the series, "Grosse Pointe Blank is one of my
favorite movies. I absolutely love the balance it strikes in tone between
Martin's job—killing people—and how he struggles to reconcile that with the
rest of his life… Ever since that movie came out, I've been wanting to write a
story about an assassin and then one day a little lightbulb went off in my head
and I thought, Imagine if an assassin was going to get married, and on that
very special day, all of his enemies showed up… and one them was his
ex-fiancée."
Every issue of Shotgun
Wedding will be released in April. So instead of waiting four months to see
how everything turns out, this will be a weekly mini-series that will end after
one month. Shotgun Wedding #1 is in
stores on March 2nd. You can pick up the second issue on March 9th,
the third on March 16th and the final issue will be available on
March 23rd. The covers of all four issues will combined to form one
large image. Not that the first cover impresses me with its mediocre character
design, but I like what they’re aiming for: a “wedding album” full of
some very non-traditional photos.
I’d love to see Harms and Pun do a comedic take with this premise since it could be pretty funny versus the typical action-packed revenge story, but we’ll have to wait and see.
