At The Movies with Jay and Kat: August 2015 "Will Fantastic Four be a Hit or Miss?"

Kat and Jay are both TV/Movie junkies, and wanted to team up on a feature every month to share their thoughts on upcoming movies. Check out Kat and Jay's thoughts on the key movies coming out in August. August has some big movies coming out like Fantastic Four, Hit Man Agent 47 , and The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

August 7

Fantastic Four

Kat's Thoughts: I know I am in the minority but I actually like the old Fantastic Four films. I grew up with them and they are nostalgic for me. I am of course skeptical about this new film. It seems like they are taking a darker approach to the property, but I am going to keep an open mind when I see the movie. I will be seeing this in theaters opening weekend.

Jay's Thoughts: Despite my issues with what we have seen/heard so far I am going to be seeing this at the theater opening weekend. We will also be discussing this on Media ((((Madness))))

The Gift

Jay's Thoughts: WOW This trailer really has me hooked! I will be seeing this. I don't know what to expect. I grew up with Jason Bateman on TV and movies and he is always this nice guy, so it will be cool to see him in this role. I love that I thought this was going to be the male version of Single White Female and then the twist of the past comes up. Opening Weekend in theaters guaranteed!

Ricki and The Flash

Kat's Thoughts: I hadn't heard of thus film until writing this article, but I think this movie proves that Meryl Streep can play any role. The movie doesn't personally interest me, but it does look fun.

Shaun the Sheep Movie

Kat's Thoughts: I feel that this movie is like a decade too late. I remember I use to watch Chicken Run all the time as a kid and Wallace & Gromit was pretty popular also. But do people care about claymation movies anymore? I will probably skip this one but I hope kids can enjoy it.

August 14th

Underdogs

Jay's Thoughts: This looks so good. I love a good inspirational sports movie as I have said in previous articles, and this has that, but in animated form with a little Toy Story vibe thrown in. So I will be seeing this in theaters!

 The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Kat's Thoughts: This looks like a fun spy movie for the Summer. I am really curious how Henry Cavill will do in this role after his fame with Superman. It's sometimes hard for an audience to seperate the actor playing Superman and him playing other characters in films. I am going to try and see this in theaters!

Jay's Thoughts: I used to like watching the reruns of the original TV Series so I am looking forward to this. I know what Kat means with actors being type cast after playing a role as big as Superman. I think since I never embraced him as Superman I don't have that issue. But I think him being one who is acting in other movies while doing the role helps his public perception.

Straight Out of Campton

Jay's Thoughts: I remember being there when N.W.A. came out. I also remember their fall. I wonder what this movie will cover because there was a lot of drama around them with the famed battle between the various members especially Dr. Dre and Eazy E. I like that the trailer shows discussion on what N.W.A. stood for since I remember different people thought different things back then. Not sure if this is something I would watch in theaters though but I will check it out on DVD if I don't.

Return to Sender

Jay's Thoughts: This movie is psychologically interesting. I think I will see it for that aspect. Ithought I knew what they were going to do and it turned it around and went a whole other way.

August 21st

Hit Man Agent 47

Kat's Thoughts: This movie looks kind of interesting. I like the cast! Quinn from Homeland is playing the main character and he looks pretty bad ass. I don't know if this will be an in theater watch for me, but I am going to try and catch it on Netflix.

  Sinister 2

Jay's Thoughts: I think I am seeing a pattern here with Kat, she seems to be leaving the horror movvies for me LOL. I am not impressed lately with the genre we need a perfect storm again like we had back in the day with Scream something that reinvigorates the franchise. I am over the jump scenes they actually bore me now.

American Ultra

Kat's Thoughts: My two least favorite actors in a stoner movie together....no thanks.

Jay's Thoughts: Wow really?  A stoner Super Soldier Sleeper Agent? And the worst part you choose Jesse Eisenberg? I mean how does a one note wonder get so much work? The only thing I liked in the trailer was Connie Britton because I love her LOL.

August 28th

Max Steel

Kat's Thoughts: I am pretty sure this movie is based on a kid show and its written by the comic book writer Christopher Yost. I am a sucker for a good teen superhero film, but I think I may wait for this to go on DVD.

Jay's Thoughts: My older nephews loved the animated series Max Steel so I will be taking my youngest nephew to see the movie in theaters. I think he will really enjoy it and I think my older nephews may join us for their nostalgia.

Regression

Jay's Thoughts: I love the psychological movies and this looks interesting. Repressed memories and government conspiracies will play a part in this one it seems. I also like Emma Watson and Ethan Hawke so I will be checking this one out.

We Are Your Friends

Jay's Thoughts: Kat is KILLING me with these movies LOL I have no interest in this movie whatsoever. Did the world really need a movie about underground DJ's trying to make it big? I know it is about inspiration but I can not see it. This will be a skip for me.

  1. I've seen every single Marvel movie starting with Blade in the late 90s, the first X-Men and Spider-Man movies, and all the other ones that came out before Marvel Studios entered into the game with Iron Man in 2008. However, next month I won't see Fantastic Four, as I cannot agree with all the unnecessary changes in this new version. It will be the first Marvel movie I'll miss in almost two decades.

By the way, I just read your post about Sandman Overture and it was great. You seem to be a bit of an expert in Neil Gaiman. Anyway, I also wrote about Sandman Overture in my blog (wich I encourage you to visit):

    1. Thank you Arion! I know but I and Kat have a thing where we do see all the movies, I mean I seen the Roger Corman Fantastic Four Movie LOL and that was BAD. But I have concerns on this as well as they change the family dynamics.

Morganstein. Mimi does a great job on her reviews!
