Mimi's Rapid Fire Reviews For Supergirl #5, Jessica Jones #4, Daredevil #15 and more!

Hi world, my name's Mimi Schweid and here's my reviews for;  Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #6, Gotham Academy Second Semester #5, Supergirl #5,  Justice League of America: Vixen #1,
Wonder Woman #14, All New Wolverine #16,  Daredevil #15, Jessica Jones #4,  Silk #16Occupy Avengers #3, Spider-Man/Deadpool #14  and Power-Man & Iron Fist #12!

Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #6

One thing I can always count in in Batgirl and the Birds of Prey is badass lady friendships. I just love the Babs, Dinah and Helena relationship in this issue and the series as a whole. It's still growing but like Babs and Dinah say at the end of the issue, ''the birds of prey are family''. If that doesn't make you smile, I don't know what will.

This is one of those series that has cheesy dialogue all over the place that I'm totally in love with because it's just delivered so well. And every once in awhile, Babs and Dinah get embarrassed over the cheesiness, which always makes me snicker. I hope this series keeps up it's A game and keeps on being one of my favorite series that I'm reading.

What I'm looking forward to most is probably Helena confronting Oracle before Dinah and Babs get the chance to. I feel like Helena's growing attached to the girls whether she likes to admit it or not.

Something I'm not looking forward to; James finding out Bab's is Batgirl and freaking out again.
  • What I liked most: Helena's character growth! You didn't do the thing!
  • What I disliked most:  Once again James is in the dark..

Gotham Academy Second Semester #5
Oh Gotham Academy you witty series you.

This is one of those series I always try to be up to date on but somehow keep on falling behind on, than binge reading again. It's an amazing series that I know Jay, Kat, Jeremy and I are all big fans of. I'm happy to be back into the swing of things with Gotham Academy and can't wait to binge read once again so I'm caught up for next months issue.

I always love Evil Librarians for some reason, probably because they always get book puns, so many book puns. Plus I love that nearly every adult in Gotham is basically a villain at this point. I'm also happy that the series manages to keep up it's mystery every issue as well as develop characters. It makes me happy to see series pull that off since so many other series I read don't always do that, at least not nearly as consistent as Gotham Academy does.
  • What I liked most: Bruce's cameo was really funny for me.
  • What I disliked most:  The ending wasn't my favorite.
  • Rating: 3.5  out of 5

Supergirl #5

Aw Kara you have impeccable timing. Bravo catching that car! Guess who only read one issue of this series so far? This girl. But thanks to Supergirl's TV show and an easy plot, I was just fine reading this issue. Poor Kara always seems to have to fight her family comic wise and television. Kara was an adorable ray of sunshine like she always is and made me smile at her ''talk'' with her father.

One of the great things about Kara is her optimism and over all ability to always see the bright side of things, even when she's fighting her father while trying to save her ''dad'' and everyone else. It was all kinds of ''dramatic'' and it still managed to make me smile a lot from the art style of Kara saving various people, the Cat Grant cameo and her cute moment with  Ben I can say I'm very excited to go back and read issues two through four while I wait for issues six!
  • What I liked most: Kara at Cat Co!
  • What I disliked most:  The ending, I'm not ready..

Justice League of America: Vixen #1

Well Mari/Vixen is adorable and I wish her the best.

I'm a sucker for stories where the token rich person who has been too wrapped up in there lives to help others has to come back to Earth and well, help others. Mari has managed to make a name for herself as a model, an activist, and general charity type individual and now she's going to make a name for herself as Vixen.

I'm excited to see this play out for her in Justice League of America where I guess she stars? I'm not actually sure to be honest. Either way, I'm pumped to read it!

One thing I'm really curious about is how she's going to balance her newfound life style, I don't exactly see things going well for her publicity wise. Which of course will make for some fun drama. Maybe her and Oliver can bond over losing there fortunes when it eventually happens to Vixen because ''money drama'' is always ''fun'' to read about.
  • What I liked most: The art was beautiful.
  • What I disliked most:  Cliche first villain fight.

Wonder Woman #14

Steve Trevor you dweeb. ''Uh, owl. On my shoulder. Using a phone.''

So this issue was cool and all but I'm 100% confused and need the other one from this month to help me out. I loved Diana fighting Ares, that was of course ''epic'' but I NEED ANSWERS. What the Hell just happened? I know in the next issue she's in an Insane Asylum since that's where she was dropped off in issue 13, so I'm hoping this issue wasn't all in Diana's head? Is she having cute but very violent dreams of her, Steve, the Hospital gang and the army fighting Ares? I understand that we the reader are probably supposed to be confused right now but I'm not exactly OK with that at the moment.

Nevertheless, I'm happy I was able to catch up on Wonder Woman Rebirth, it's a really cool series with pretty art and Diana and Steve being adorable and bad-ass all at once.
  • What I liked most: Diana's ''School'' scene. Awesome full page scene of her and her lasso.
  • What I disliked most:  The over all confusion I felt while reading even though I'm caught up.

All New Wolverine #16

Laura needs a hug asap. I love her so much and I am so pumped for issue 17. Jesus that is going to be one hell of a fight.

One of the best things with this series has been Laura and Gabby's relationship, I love how they are with each other and I can't wait for Gabby to finally call Laura her sister like she told the children on that ship. Which I know she is totally going to save or possibly have saved while Laura's been under by her oh so evil controlling bitch Kimura. This is such an amazing series because of what it's symbolizing with Laura defining herself as Wolverine as a whole. I am all for where this story is going and what it's done as a whole.
  • What I liked most: I actually loved that really painful opening page.
  • What I disliked most:  Kimura needs to be stabbed. Repeatedly.
  • Rating:  5 out of 5

Daredevil #15

Matt, we've talked about this. STOP TRYING TO GET YOURSELF KILLED BECAUSE YOU FEEL GUILTY ABOUT THINGS.

Okay, now that I've gotten that off my chest let me say this, man, that was an awesome issue. I truly love this series, I just got behind on reviewing it. I'm in love with the art, the characters, the general style/feel of the series, it's just everything I love in a Daredevil comic. Netflix got me into the world that is Daredevil and between catching up on the older runs, the 2012 series and this one, I have more than enough material to enjoy. Matt is just one of those characters I love but also always need to bitch slap because he never talks about his feelings until it's too late. Nevertheless, AWESOME ENDING, I can't wait for next months issue!
  • What I liked most: Matt's fighting montage pages.
  • What I disliked most:  That dad, it's totally not ending well for him.

Jessica Jones #4
This is one of those series where I'm okay with it's ''slow'' pace compared to the others that I'm reading. Why is that?  Well, it's because I'm getting to see Jessica Jones star in her own series again and be friends with Carol Danvers without me wanting to punch Carol like I've had in other series this past year or so. It's great to see the friendship between these two and have Carol drop some casual bombs about why Jessica was in prison without giving me all of the answers just yet. I know that when it's revealed I'm going to lose my mind for a bit and be thrilled all at the same time.

The fact the team that brought Jessica back to life were the same people that created her is probably the main reason I'm also enjoying this as much as I am. If it was another team I probably would have dropped it.
  • What I liked most: Jessica & Carol's chat in the house.
  • What I disliked most:  I'm mixed on the Misty/Luke stuff.

Silk #16
First off, thanks lil catch up page for filling me in on what I've missed. Now onto the review!

I hope that at some point, I will get to read a Silk comic THAT ENDS HAPPILY FOR CINDY. This poor woman just never has it easy. Ever. At least not in my experience in reading the Silk series. I just want to hug her and give her a milk shake and tell her ''It'll all be okay.'' at some point but she's fictional and hugging a comic book gets annoying when you worry about creasing the pages. But I digress, this was an AWESOME issue. I'm happy I jumped back in now and can't wait to see the rest of this story arch. I'm a sucker for Clone stories so this is right up my alley. I hope Cindy gets to see Gwen and have a girls day soon when this is all over, I feel like they both need that badly. Same for Jessica Drew.
  • What I liked most: Cindy's proper lack of trust in the creepy town.
  • What I disliked most:  The ending, I saw it coming but I get it..
  • Rating:   3.5 out of 5

Occupy Avengers #3

This is one of those series that I know Kat gave me to read because of Hawkeye. So of course I read it, because Clint is one of my cosplays/nerdy Twitter role-play characters I write. The thing with this series is it's actually emotional, it's heavy in a beautiful way. It's not just my dweeby Clint being dweeby, they are letting him have all of these feelings that I love about the character and are still letting him be fun all at once. Red Wolf is also badass and I'm very entertained by Nighthawk and the woman whose name I don't know are so very entertaining.

This series has taken me by surprise and I'm okay with that. It's a fun but deep read and I'm happy that I'm reading it. If you like stories with beautiful art that also make you think, read this series.
  • What I liked most: Red Wolf is fantastically deadpan.
  • What I disliked most:  Whelp that ending, I loved it but oh shit things are going to get real.
  • Rating:  4.5 out of 5

''I used to think people wanting to kill me had more to do with them. That it was their unresolved baggage from a messed-up childhood that made them want me dead. Then I started to wonder -- what if it's not them? What is it's me? What is it's always been me?''

Spider-Man/Deadpool #14

I applaud the Spider-Man/Deadpool team for pulling off so many filler issues that still manage to do something for the plot. I love the self aware style, I love that they are still bringing up what happened to Peter in earlier issues and that slowly but surely, Wade is growing as a character.

I appreciate that the team behind Spider-Man/Deadpool clearly love these characters and write them with all of the good, bad and ugly that is in both Peter and Wade. I'm just very happy this bizarre and genuinely silly series still exists.

This is one of those series I always recommend to people just because it's an easy read. And yet even though it's an ''easy'' read it still packs the ''feels'' with speeches like the one Wade gave towards the end of the issue. I'm also happy that they still have to deal with Itsy Bitsy and can't wait for next months issue.
  • What I liked most: Wade's speech.
  • What I disliked most:  Peter needs a hug asap. Just ouch.

''No one ever thinks of the children. Unless the children are the ones doing the teleporting, in which case you're probably thinking, ''Damn it, I never should have let my children play with that teleporter!'' But I digress.''

Power-Man & Iron Fist #12

It blows my mind that the current villain, well, one of them, is from Runaways. I read one of the first trades over the summer so it's kinda sad for me to see him be this way now. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean I'm not enjoying this new story arch. Don't get me wrong, the Power-Man and Iron Fist Civil War 2 tie-in issues were cool but I wasn't here for Civil War 2 tie ins, I was in it for stories like this. Stories with Luke and Danny kicking ass and helping those that need help. And now, making more Heroes For Hire, I'm all for where this story-arch is going and I'm much more excited to see Power-Man and Iron Fist issues in my pull again and have been since the Harlem Burns story arch started.

I appreciate that this series is written a bit like the original series and a bit like the current world we live in. It's got a great 'feeling' to it and happy to see the boys back together, kicking some ass but also developing as people. Character growth is always needed.
  • What I liked most: Luke & Danny's views on how the fight went down.
  • What I disliked most: Alex, boy, calm yourself.
  • Rating:   4.5 out of 5
