Mimi's Rapid Fire Reviews: Jessica Jones #7, Iron Fist #2, Bullseye #3 And More!

Hi world, my name's Mimi Schweid and here's my reviews for Green Arrow #20, James Bond #2, Black Cloud #1, Paper Girls #13, All New Wolverine #19, America #2, Bullseye #3, Hawkeye #5, Iron Fist #2, Jessica Jones #7, Spider-Man/Deadpool #16, X-Men Gold #1, Riverdale #1

Green Arrow #20

So, I appreciate the fact that I didn't read issue 19 but the fact I read 18, I was fine with reading this story. I truly enjoy this series and tip my hat/beanie towards the writers for managing to do this type of story-line that feels almost episodic in format. Every time I think I get the hang of the story-line, I get another ending like this that brings us back to the ''main'' focus Oliver has hanging over his shoulders. You know, the corrupt city, the fact his life is shot to shit (puns intended) and Dinah's around to save his ass. Just a normal Green Arrow comic really when you get down to it.

This issue wrapped up some ''hella'' dramatic stuff for Roy to go through. IE some killer flash-backs of Roy and Ollie's life together before/after Count Vertigo fucked it up even more. It was an emotional read and I applaud the writers yet again for letting the story ''go there''. This was by far one of the coolest issues for me, I just would've loved more sass but that's just me. Over all though this was a fantastic end to a nice and heavy story-arch in the ever growing Green Arrow run that is DC Rebirth.

  • What I liked most:  Roy flash-backs, super happy they didn't erase his drug/alcohol issues in the Rebirth event.
  • What I disliked most:   I NEED MORE PUNS!
  • Rating:   4.5 out of 5

Black Cloud #1

THIS WAS SO PRETTY, I NEED MORE NOW! Black Cloud is about a woman, whose name I don't know yet who is from another world that looks beautiful. Has a real fantastic style about it that's almost 1920's mixed with Narnia. It's just a beautiful world and I can't wait to have a trade for this series already.

I can already tell that this is going to be one of those series that I will do my damndest to be up to date on as much as possible.  This is a comic-book world that I badly want to be apart of so I guess I'll just  have to review it to get my feels out.

  • What I liked most:  The art is fantastic, makes me think of Wolf. Than again most Image comic's make me think of Wolf.
  • What I disliked most:  That I'm going to have a long month of waiting for issue 2.

Paper Girls #13

Well, it took me since 2015 to finally read this series but damn has it been worth the read. Paper Girls is a fantastic series and for the past few issues is taking place in another world. A world where our gang of Paper Girls are in a more prehistoric time and KJ has her period for the first time. Which  of course can already suck but put it in pre-historic time and things get even worse.

This issue has the gang still separated, Mac and KJ are trying to get back to Erin and Tiffany but are also trying to get ahold of a time machine again. Basically everyone's looking for a working time machine and trying not to get killed by some crazy rage-e men. Oh and a chick from the future that gives me Mac vibes is having a horrible, horrible time. I'm honestly not sure who I feel bad for more, KJ because they have a hanky to deal with there period and nothing else at the moment, or the chick whose hanging upside down from a tree bleeding.

Over all though this was another awesome Paper Girls issue! Can't wait for issue 14!

  • What I liked most:  That art always gets me, it's just so freaking pretty!
  • What I disliked most:   The fact I need to wait for all of that crazy possible vision sequence to happen.

All New Wolverine #19

Laura and Gabby, back at it again, kicking some serious ass and having some wardrobe updates. I am 100% in love with the fact Gabby insisted that they made them bullet proof. AND THAT JAB ABOUT LOGAN HAVING TO PROVE THINGS, MAN, HIGH FIVE ALL NEW WOLVERINE WRITERS, HIGH-FIVES ALL AROUND.

I'm so happy that Gabby and Laura are off kicking ass together like this after everything they've been through. AND THAT THEY ARE OFF FINDING THE KIDS THAT GABBY WAS WITH. Carol  showed up surrounded by stars, Laura and Gabby cut up some horrible people, Riri is still a badass lady being in charge of things, kind of. I'm just excited for next months issue and to see where it goes. This is a great start to the new arch and over all journey for Laura and Gabby!
  • What I liked most:  RIRI GOES BY IRONHEART, THAT'S SO CUTE!
  • What I disliked most:  WHY ROOSEVELT ISLAND? I LIVE ON ROOSEVELT ISLAND!

America #2
Ayyyy, I'm getting some America with Steve AND Peggy, just what I needed in life. I'm in love with the fact America finally has her own series. That she's kicking ass (as always) with other girls (as always) and helping people even when she doesn't want to. I'm looking at you douche-bro's.

Anyways, this comic not only gave me America and Peggy but America and Lunella, AS A GUEST SPEAKER! YES LUNELLA, SLAY! CONTINUE BEING THE SMARTEST PERSON IN THE WORLD. Make my heart proud even though I haven't read your series in months.

But, as I was saying, I love this series. I love America and everything she represents and that her new friends fought robots with epic dance moves. Overall, another epic issue, I can't wait to see where else this story takes me in time/space and am all for where this stories taken me so far. Also can't wait for America to have some more bonding with all of her new friends.

  • What I liked most:  Lunella's sass about the 12345 password.
  • What I disliked most:   That I didn't see America pet Devil Dinosaur, don't ask why I wanted that.

Bullseye #3
So, Bullseye is a simple series. He's been hired by a mobster to get his son back from some drug lords in Mexico. The government is after him, but it's not exactly sanctioned/approved, everyone wants a shot at Bullseye (I'll see myself out) and Bullseye is down to shoot everything. It's amazing, it's mindless, this series is simply one of my favorites and took me by surpirse. I didn't want to like this series because I've never been a Bullseye fan but damn this is fantastic. He's just a lovely mixture to me of Deadpool and Frank Castle so of course, something I'm throughly entertained by. He's just so stupidly witty that I'm laughing out loud a lot more than I ever expected for a Bullseye series.

Anyways, I liked this issue. I enjoy the point A to point B style of the story and am curious to see how it'll all turn out when it all comes together in a few issues. I'm curious as to how long this story-arch is going to go on for and am eagerly awaiting next months issue.

  • What I liked most:  The sass in this issue, my god.
  • What I disliked most:   The ending because damn it, cliff hangers.

Hawkeye #5

Oh Katie-Kate you amazing girl you, teaming up with my other favorite girl, Jessica Jones. Now this is a cross-over event I want to be a reoccurring thing. Jessica doesn't need to be a frequent thing, I'd just love her to pop up every once in awhile to help out with things like she is here. Or in this case, work together because Jessica's on-going case is dealing with Kate's on-going case. This is something that I can easily see happening every once in awhile given the fact they're both PI's. Or at least, Kate's in the process and Jessica's been one for years. BUT I DIGRESS, I want my ladies to help each other out for more than just what might be two, maybe three issues.

Anyways, Jessica and Kate working together with Kate taking notes the entire time was just what I needed to read after-work. I can't wait to see how Jessica and Kate taking down not only a fucking dragon but the creepy cult thanks to Kate's dad that she's got to deal with.

  • What I liked most:  THEY ARE LITERALLY FIGHTING A DRAGON.
  • What I disliked most: It ended in a funny moment that I thoroughly loved.

Iron Fist #2

Man oh man do I love the ridiculous-ness of this series.  I honestly would love to see this play out on Netflix at some point. It's just so beautifully over the top but still grounded enough for me to enjoy it. Danny's going through that emotional stage in his life where he doesn't really know what he's doing anymore because his Chi is shot to shit and all I want to do is make jokes about Danny not being able to ''get it up'' but I'm not going to. I'm just going to leave that here in the review.

Anyways, Danny's now on the fancy island he left for in issue 1 and he's basically going to have seven different Boss Battle type fights to gain there Chi. So, I think it's safe to say this is probably a seven issue story unless they cram in 2 Boss Battle's in an issue for the next five? I don't know, I'm just guessing on that pacing. Nevertheless, I'm enjoying this. It's funny seeing the fight style's being named as Danny and his 'rival' fight. This isn't the 'best' series but I'm enjoying it, I'm happy I get to read it.

Oh, and I have to appreciate the fact that Danny get's drawn in the same Male Gaze way than Peter Quill/Star-Lord does in his new series.
  • What I liked most:  Patience, she seems like fun. Can't wait for her and Danny to fight.
  • What I disliked most:   The ending page, meh, rats.

Jessica Jones #7

Man, I'm so proud of Jessica, I also still want to hug her, and Luke. Basically I want to hug everybody. I absolutely loved seeing Danielle, Luke and Jessica together.  The three of them make me happy despite the dysfunctional relationship that is Jessica and Luke.

I'm excited to see how exactly Jessica helps Maria in next months issue and of course to see how Luke and Jessica's relationship continues to develop. Or in this case, gets patched up for the sake of Danielle. I need more Danielle, Luke and Jessica together scenes because I loved what we got this issue. I look forward to more of the chaos that is Jessica Jones oh so love-able life. I mean come on, we got to see her break a guys arm because  she saw some prick trying to force himself on a woman than she hugged the woman?! SOMEBODY CLAP FOR JESSICA JONES DAMN IT. And go buy a bunch of the series because all of the covers are beautiful.
  • What I liked most:  Jessica & Danny, honestly they were adorable.
  • What I disliked most:  WEIRD VILLAIN ALERT, BUT I'M EXCITED.

Spider-Man/Deadpool #16

Just when I finish one event, I forget I'm reading another one (I'm looking at you Spider-Gwen/Spider-Man (Miles). Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy Spider-Man Deadpool, and this event is as hysterically stupid as everything else I've read from this series but I didn't expect it to be as long as it has been. Or as big of a cross-over as this event currently is going into all three of these series. This is still a fun event, and I'm entertained by Cami, Peter and Wade's dynamic. I also snickered over the fact that Cami played a video-game with Dracula to get him to help the Gang fight Deadpool's wife.

Honestly, I enjoy this series, it's an easy read and fun to read on the subway after work but as a whole, I never really have to worry about missing an issue. Even during an event like this where I missed other tie-ins. I feel like this is an event that I'll enjoy as a trade-paperback in a few months. Nevertheless, I do recommend this series and this 'Til Death Do Us Part' story-line.
  • What I liked most:  All of the Gorilla's dialogue over not being a monster was snicker worthy.
  • What I disliked most:   The fact I have more of this event?
  • Rating:  3.5 out of 5

X-Men Gold #1

So I'm totally horrible at being up to date with X-Men comics other than All New Wolverine, but I want to stay up to date on this. I enjoyed this first issue and look forward to seeing how Kitty handles being team-leader again and having Storm and Logan at her side along with the rest of the gang. I'm all for Kitty coming to terms with the crazy amount of money that Kitty apparently owes now because part of the X-Mansion being in Central Park.

One thing I thoroughly enjoyed was Logan offering to gut people, that everyone just worked so well under Kitty because she knew exactly how to use everyone's powers to the best of there abilities. It was just refreshing to see and I'm all for more Kitty doing what she does, kicking ass, phasing buildings, bonding with Logan, you know, regular day it seems. I also appreciate the fact they're letting Storm reflect over the X-Men/InHuman's ordeals like Carol is dealing with her events in her new series. I'm just happy about that little consistency.
  • What I liked most:  The cute Cover-Page ending and the history page.
  • What I disliked most:  That massive amount of money Kitty's being charged. My God it hurts my heart and bank account.

Riverdale #1

So, Archie's mini-story was about his foot-ball Hell-week, poor guy's seeing a dead Jason everywhere. Cheryl caused her own Hell Week for Betty with three challenges, 1) wear a special Vixen's uniform. 2) Break into Baxter  High to get the Whistle that the Vixen's lost last year and 3) Stand on the roof of the school for five minutes.

This issue filled me with 'aw's'. Archie is well, Archie, a sweet guy willing to go swim through the horrible river for Moose and dealing with the pressure of Jason's jersey number hanging over his head. Or in this case, actually wearing it but I digress. Betty and Veronica  were of course, fantastic together and my Beronica feels are as strong as ever.

Over all, this was another cute issue and I look forward to next months!
  • What I liked most:  #HotBetty, I mean she's always hot but whatever.
  • What I disliked most:   That it wasn't longer?
  • Rating:  4 out of 5
