Since the first trailer came out fans have been curious where it all fit into canon, like if this is set in the Prime, Kelvin, or a new timeline, which wasn’t answered here, but canon came up a number of times on the panel, with Kurtzman giving a glimpse into the writer’s room on the show.

Anthony Rapp, who plays Lt. Stamets, also chimed in on the matter, speaking highly of the passion of all those involved.

A cornerstone of Star Trek has always been its infinite diversity which was brought up later when Rapp spoke about the importance of playing an openly gay character, and announced that actor Wilson Cruz will play Stamets’ love interest.

This really highlights the show’s continuing that devotion towards diversity. This lead to Martin-Green explaining how diversity is at the core of the franchise while taking on those who have criticized the show for being so diverse, which was me .

One of the funnier parts of the panel came when Doug Jones demonstrated how is character, Lt. Saru, walks. Afterwhich he explained that Saru is 6’8″ and has hooves for feet.
Despite seeing a Klingon speaking english in the newest trailer, Producer Gretchen Berg explained that Klingon’s on the show will be speaking their native tongue and subtitles will be shown.
Producers announced that Jeff Russo will serve as Discovery‘s composer. He has already completed Discovery’s theme and producers have developed the title sequence. Russo most recently served as the composer on FX’s Fargo.
Executive Producer Akiva Goldsman, talked about being a fan of the original show watching reruns in the 70s, discussed their approach for the show. Apparently there will be no stand alone episodes on #StarTrekDiscovery - the 1st season will be one long 15 episode arc!
Star Trek Discovery‘s 15-episode first season will premiere on September 24 at 8:30 PM ET on CBS. Immediately following the first episode’s release, the second episode will be available on CBS All Access, with subsequent episodes released on Sundays. The first eight episodes will run from September 24 through November 5, with the series taking a small hiatus and returning in January 2018.

Gretchen Berg, Aaron Harberts, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Heather Kadin and Alex Kurtzman are executive producers on the series. Nicholas Meyer, Kirsten Beyer and Ted Sullivan are serving as writers and consulting producers.
