With the Camazotz lose hunting Vampires, Buffy and the Scooby Gang meet Spike and Dru. Buffy is off to a great start and I think we are getting to see a more well-rounded cast early on. If you watched Buffy over the course of the series we saw characters grow and evolve and it feels like the comic is taking all of that growth and applying it during the high school years while still maintaining the innocence of the early days. In this issue that is most seen in Cordelia, who has the heart and fight that Angel Cordelia had but we get a glimpse of classic Cordie as well. The art by Mora is just perfection, it has just the right amount of realism/likeness and cartoon vibe to give it that perfect modern take on the show. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate

The Rangers and Alpha-5 meet Alpha-1 and learn about him while Rita tricks the spirit of her mother into helping her in unlocking the Green Power Coin. Ryan Parrott is taking 2019 by storm! I think I am more excited for the new updated Green With Evil Saga in Go Go Power Rangers than I was about the original one on TV. He gives the reason and journey behind the introduction of the Green Ranger so much heart and detail. Rita talking with her mother's spirit makes you wonder for a moment could Rita change? We see that glimpse of the Mystic Mother in her eyes. Then the introduction of Alph-1 who is bad af! I want Hasbro to bring him to the Lightning Collection! The art by Carlini just ups the experience all the more and makes it feel like I am witnessing the best version of this team in any medium. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate

Hawkman #10 Cataclysm Part Three London Falling, the Deathbringer’s have arrived and are beginning their attack on Earth starting with London. This issue leads us to find out whey Hawkman has been time jumping and how he might use that to his advantage. Robert Venditti writes a Hawkman we can all get behind and pull for to win, and here is fighting to find himself…. All of himself as it were. Bryan Hitch’s art is outstanding and does a great job of capturing the overwhelming odds that our hero faces in this arc. The ending is awesome and definitely one of the most hawk fill last pages ever plus it’s a great lead-in for the next issue. ~ Justin @ExileState

John continues telling his parents the story of where he has been and what happened to him, including his time on Earth-3 with the Crime Syndicate. I have been enjoying Bendis run on Superman, and enjoy #9, but I think the story feels like a stall. John's retelling of what Ultraman did to him could have taken up half of the page time. The art is solid, but I wished they pick an artist and be consistent. While I do have some issues with this book, overall I found it engaging and left me wanting more. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate

The Wonder Twins meet Beast Boy and get their first assignment as interns, meanwhile, they go on a field trip to a Lexicon Prison. The last issue of this book was amazing Saturday Morning fun, this issue while fun was not on that level. This issue really felt a tonal shift by talking about prison reform. If you took out the social commentary the issue would have been a lot better focusing on this mort name Scambler and the League of Annoyance, it just felt like the social commentary on Prison reform was forced into the main comical story. The art here is as beautiful as the first issue and was a nice visual treat. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate

Peter and Miles team up to take out more mutant rat hybrids and break a big story while earning the wrath of Gwen Stacey. Deliah S. Dawson writes and AMAZING Spider-Man duo (soon a trio) book here! We get the best of both Peter and Miles, both very much in character and displaying how much they have in common. Dawson perfectly uses their internal monologues to show us their strength, fears, weaknesses, and vulnerabilities perfectly! I want this, no scratch that, I NEED this to be more on a regular monthly schedule as the three and a half month wait between issues was just too damn long! Ossio slays it with the art here! I feel like I am watching cartoons on Saturday morning with the fluid flow of the panels and the clean style of lines along with the vibrant colors of Pattison, it is just SPECTACULAR! Taking place between moments of the Season 1 Finale, Saru must take command of the Discovery to rescue another Federation ship. Beyer and Johnson do a great job bringing the crew of the Discovery to life here, every voice felt legit, I could hear Burnham, Tilly, and Saru. They did a great job with Saru as Captain and makes me wonder how he would do as the Captain after Pike leaves. Saru is my favorite member of the Discovery and seeing him take control of the situation brought images of both Picard and Janeway to mind. This is the type of stories we need for the show where Michael Burnham is a part of the story but isn't the Deus Ex Machina. Hernandez does a nice job bringing the visual style of the Discovery and its crew to the page here with only a few missteps with Saru. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate

Before the great war between Autobots and Decepticons, there was peace on Cybertron. This is a new star to the Transformers by IDW and so far I have to say it is off to a good start, even if it is a bit of a slow burn. This book isn't as word heavy as the previous era of Transformers and that is a good thing, and I like us starting further back then we have before. The Decepticons aren't known by that name but instead the Ascenticons and we get to meet primate mammals names Voin scavengers which were nice to see biological life on the planet. I love seeing Rubble be the new eyes here, he is taking on our role seeing this world for the first time and while it is a slow burn, there is enough to bring me back for more. The art here was nicely done using both the darker and light tones to bring a more well-rounded image of this Cybertron. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate

The Magnificent Ms. Marvel #1 is an extremely new reader friendly issue that introduces an interesting new plot that hadn’t been explored in G. Willow Wilson’s run - aliens. As someone who has read all of Wilson’s run I thought this issue had too much exposition for new readers, but I did enjoy Saladin Ahmed using this time to showcase his voice for many of the central characters of the series. Although, I was a bit torn on his voice for Kamala’s parents. Kamala’s mom has been keeping her daughter's superhero identity secret for a long time, and it comes out of the blue for her to reveal it to her husband in this issue. It felt a bit out of character, but it does lead to an interesting cliffhanger. Minkyu Jung on artwork is a great addition to the series as Ian Herring on colors keeps a familiar feel to the book. If you’ve been wanting to jump onto Ms. Marvel this is the perfect issue, but I wish that The Magnificent Ms. Marvel #1 had a bit more for old fans. ~ Kat @ComicUno

Runaways #19 introduces a new art team that embraces Kris Anka and Matthew Wilson’s style but bring their own flair to this Molly centric issue. This was a solid start for the new creative team as they dig deeper into Molly’s feelings towards her parents as she “runs away” from her found family to figure out her own feelings on The Pride. It feels like a good build up to something bigger for the Runaways family, and I’m excited to see what this will mean for Molly's future. ~ Kat @ComicUno

Gwen Stacy continues to try and adjust to the world knowing her secret identity and needs to come up with a plan to make money with only a high school degree and jail time. This was a really solid character story where we get to see Gwen’s friends and family react to her wanting to create a "Heroes for Hire" type business model. I especially love Betty and Gwen’s dynamic as they deal with being ex-roommates because of Gwen's super heroics. Seanan McGuire also does a good job at building the series’ new villains as the lines between Gwen and Spider-Woman become blurrier. What does this mean for the safety of Gwen's friends? On artwork, the Ms. Marvel duo Takeshi Miyazawa and Ian Herring have great chemistry from their previous work with Marvel together. They bring a great, new flare to Spider-Gwen. Spider-Gwen: Ghost Spider #6 is a solid issue where McGuire showcases her voice for these characters perfectly as Gwen tries to find her new normal. ~ Kat @ComicUno

The conclusion to X-Assassin sees Laura facing off against an army of cyborg assassin versions of herself. This was a good conclusion but felt a bit rushed. Tamaki does a great job though with the character development here through the monologues and narration. The best part though has to be Gabby, she brings us on her emotional journey here, when she is up so are we and when her heart breaks so do ours. The art here was good but could have been stronger with the X-Assassins, it just seemed a bit cluttered and scratchy. ~ Jay @ComicBookTheate
