NYCC 2014: Spider-Gwen Gets Her Own Ongoing Series

By: Nicole D'Andria

During Marvel’s “Retail Exclusive: Meet MARVEL” meeting Friday morning a new ongoing series was announced that is, so far, the biggest news coming out of New York City Comic Con.  This ongoing series will star Gwen Stacy as Spider-Woman.

This is an alternate universe story that began in Edge of Spider-Verse #2. In the issue it was revealed that in this universe, instead of Peter Parker getting bitten by a radioactive spider, Gwen Stacy was bitten and became the friendly neighborhood Spider-Woman. It’s satisfying to note that Gwen is Spider-Woman, not Spider-Girl. The story was originally only supposed to be a one-shot anthology but fan reaction towards Spider-Woman’s costume and the story was so strong it was decided to make this into a whole series.

The new series will premiere in February 2015. It is assumed the writer and artist of Edge of Spider-Verse #2--Jason Latour (Wolverine and the X-Men) and Robbi Rodriguez (Maintenance)--will continue to write/draw the character in the new ongoing series. As of right now the title for the series has not been revealed. Spider-Woman is already taken.  Could they get away with The Amazing Spider-Woman? List your thoughts and suggestions for a title below!
