Breaking News: Disney Sets To Expand Star Wars Presence In Their Parks

Ever since Disney acquired the Star Wars franchise they have been making big announcements including the continuation of the movies with Star Wars: Episode VII, a brand new animated series Star Wars: Rebels and the introduction of the Star Wars Universe into their theme parks. Today we find out that the Disney Parks have more in store for the franchise. Kat, Comic Uno is a HUGE Disney fan and shares her thoughts on this news while speculating on what it could mean for the Disney Parks.

"Developing designs for a far greater Star Wars presence in the parks.
When we grow Star Wars presence, which we will do significantly, you will see better bets being made that will pay off for us than were made in the past."
– Bob Iger, Disney CEO

While full details of the expansion won’t be revealed until sometime next year, Disney may touch on this news at this year’s D23 Expo August 13-15.  At last year’s D23 Expo, Disney teased a Star Wars presence in its parks with crates marked "Orange Harvest" and partially visible blueprints. Disney, like other theme parks knows that attractions based on major franchises bring in guests.
"They pull people from, 'Gee, I'm gonna go someday' to 'I'm gonna go this year.'"
– Jay Rasulo, Disney's Finance Chief And Senior Executive Vice President

The successful inclusion of Star Wars is already evident with the success of the Star Tours simulator ride is in Disney's Hollywood Studios, in Florida, Disneyland in California, Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris. The Florida and California parks also have an interactive show called Jedi Training Academy that is a big hit. Then they also have the additions of Disney's Hollywood Studios that plays host to Star Wars Weekends, an annual event featuring shows, parades and a massive store called Darth's Mall.

Stay tuned to Comic Frontline for our coverage of this news and more when we dedicate a Media Madness Vidcast to the D23 Expo on Sunday August 17, 2014. The time will be announced as soon as we confirm who will be appearing with us on the panel.
