No Trick(ster) - Mark Hamill Is Reprising His Role On The Flash!

The CW  announced today that Mark Hamill will revisit a familiar role to him, James Jesse, the Trickster in The Flash. Hamill previously portrayed the character in the 90's  CBS  Flash TV Series.

Hamill will debut as the original Trickster, James Jesse on this seasons 17th episode which will air sometime this spring. In the 90's Hamill portrayed the over the top Trickster who along with his female sidekick Prank who would pull gags on John Wesley Shipp's Flash in the 90's series, but  The CW  has described his latest incarnation of the character in a much different fashion.

“In this new iteration, The Trickster is an anarchist terrorist con man serving a life sentence in Iron Heights who helps Barry (Grant Gustin) and Det. West (Jesse L. Martin) to foil the city-wide attacks of a wannabe Trickster eagerly following in the original's deadly footsteps. The episode will reunite him with John Wesley Shipp who went up against him as the original 'Flash' on the CBS version."

Hamill will be the third actor to appear on both the 90's Flash and the current series on  The CW , and the. second to reprise the same role as they previously played. John Wesley Shipp played the title role of the Flash along with his alter ego, Barry Allen, the roles currently being played by his onscreen son Grant Gustin. Amanda Pays makes her debut to the role she portrayed on the  CBS  series, Dr. Tina McGee in this week's episode "The Man In The Yellow Suit", while the name is the same, like Hamill's Trickster expect a different take on the character.

"Having Mark reprise his role as The Trickster was on our original wish list when we were planning our version of The Flash. Christmas and Chanukah came early for us this year when he said yes! We are beyond humbled and excited to have him joining us for another round of deadly trickery!"
- Andrew Kreisberg, Flash Executive Producer

From the description of Hamill's Trickster, and that he will be James Jesse, I think my original opinion on how they should do the Trickster will be carried out. On a LIVE Show during the summer I said it would be cool to see Hamill as the original Trickster, and then have a newer younger one going around like they have in the comics. The younger Trickster in the Pre-New 52 was Axel Walker. Now that we know that seems to be the direction of the character(s), I just wonder if they will use the Trickster's real name in the show. In the comics he was a circus acrobat named Giovanni Giuseppe who decided to become a villain and adopted the alter ego James Jesse to become the Trickster.

This also brings up the question if David Cassidy will reprise his role as the Mirror Master. Cassidy's daughter Katie Cassidy currently portrays Laurel Lance, the Black Canary on   The CW 's  Arrow, so could Mirror Master be like Captain Boomerang and be a Flash Rogue who debuts first on Arrow?
