Dynamite Entertainment will be releasing their first female-centric crossover event which is currently under the working title The Women of Dynamite. Who better to write the series than Gail Simone, who has written several series with empowering female characters like Wonder Woman, Birds of Prey, Batgirl and Red Sonja. The crossover will include Dynamite favorites like Vampirella, Red Sonja, Dejah Thoris and the many other female characters owned by Dynamite Entertainment.
Dynamite’s female characters have graced the same title
before in The
Prophecy but this is specifically focused on female characters
which I’m really looking forward to seeing. Red Sonja is the fantasy barbarian
who spun out of Conan the Barbarian,
Vampirella is a vampire (shocker) and a supernatural detective, and Dejah
Thoris was a sci-fi character from A
Princess of Mars and Warlord of Mars.
Writer Gail Simone commented about her other series Red Sonja and this new series,
mentioning "When I first spoke with Nick about working at Dynamite, he
graciously offered my choice of a huge list of great characters, and I
immediately chose a favorite, Red Sonja… But that meant leaving behind amazing
characters I loved! So doing this big, fun, noisy event book, full of
action and fun and drama and sex and villainy, featuring some of the wildest
female characters out there, that's just awesome. Getting to work with
some of the most talented female writers in the industry only makes it
better!"

I love seeing women in comic books so I’m glad to see a
female-centric crossover. I wish
Dynamite had done it sooner. I’m hoping to see some obscure female characters.
Maybe the crossover will catapult their popularity and cause them to have their
own spin-off series… and maybe answer the age-old question of how their clothes stay on. Here’s to hoping!
The
Women of Dynamite will be solicited in an upcoming Diamond
Comic Distributors Previews catalog. The crossover will also be available
digitally through comiXology, iVerse, and Dark Horse Digital. Gail Simone will
also be writing a mini-series for Dynamite Entertainment called Vampirella: Feary Tales. But that is a
tale for another news story.
