It was announced yesterday at Comic-Con International: San Diego 2015 that Machinima the online gamer and video platform and Hasbro the toy company and play brand are combining to bring an all-new Transformers series online. The series is set during the Combiner Wars and introduces some new characters and history into the Transformers franchise.
Transformers: Combiner Wars is a storyline that has been playing out across Hasbro Toys toy line and IDW Publishing comic books for the past year and is going to be in upcoming Transformers: Devastation video game from Activision that saw groups of Transformers interlock to form one giant robot, known as a Combiner. Superion and Menasor were among the new Transformers that held the fate of the Cybertron, in their hands.
This is the first time that Hasbro has combined in all of these markets to tell an overall story. The series transforms the animation franchise into something that a large number of the Transformers audience have been asking for, for years: an animated series aimed at an older audience.
“Our audiences are huge fans of the toy, comics, movies and video games, and for us to continue the legend with the Combiner Wars is a unique story-telling opportunity.”
- Daniel Tibbets, Machinima's Chief Content Officer
