On November 27, 2016 for the 10th anniversary of the anime CODE GEASS: LELOUCH OF THE REBELLION at the Maihama Amphitheater in Chiba celebrated the October 5, 2006 debut. During the event it was announced that the 50-episode anime will be edited into a three movie comprehensive theatrical version. The first movie was originally announced to debut in January, but the month came and went without a movie or any news. But recently the official Code Geass Twitter began a countdown which expired last night at midnight and they announced the three movies along with release dates!
The first of the three movies CODE GEASS: LELOUCH OF THE REBELLION I will premiere in Japan theaters on October 21, 2017 followed by the second movie CODE GEASS: LELOUCH OF THE REBELLION II February 2018, and the third movie CODE GEASS: LELOUCH OF THE REBELLION III to round them out in May 2018. The original announcement said that they will feature re-recorded dialog and new cuts of animation. Bandai Visual released the official trailer for the first movie, which didn't feature any of the new dialog or animation. Theater flyers and posters using the teaser visuals, special information, theater schedules and more will start being announced tomorrow Saturday, July 29, 2017 at the scheduled theaters.
There is no news yet on when a sub or dub version will be released for American audiences, but in preparation for the movies Crunchyroll has added all 50 episodes of the original subbed anime that include the 25 first season CODE GEASS: LELOUCH OF THE REBELLION and the 25 episodes of the second season CODE GEASS: LELOUCH OF THE REBELLION R2. For those that prefer the English dubbed versions FUNimation also features all 50 excellently dubbed episodes.
Beyond that, the big news fans are still waiting to hear about is the announced CODE GEASS: LELOUCH OF THE RESURRECTION anime set several years after ZERO REQUIEM, which director Goro Taniguchi says "stars a Lelouch who is alive and not an alternate version." The news of this was also announced during the celebration, but whether this will be a TV anime or movie has not been announced, even though many believe this is going to be the third season.
I have recently started watching the anime myself thanks to Rant Cafe on AnimeUproar, who also brought this news to my attention with their late night livestream breaking the story for fans. I am watching both the subbed and the dubbed versions of the anime and have enjoyed it so far. You can friend me, recommend anime, and follow my progress on CODE GEASS and other anime I'm watching on MyAnimeList.
