The film will be based on Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's influential 1988 Batman one-shot of the same name. Timm also announced that the animated feature would be directed by Justice League: Gods and Monsters director Sam Liu, and will be released direct to DVD in 2016. Timm implied that the animated feature would also have a Comic-Con premiere.

DC Comics later confirmed the news, and expanded by adding that it will feature an all-new prologue, designed to add to the story. DC also announced two more upcoming animated features.
Batman: Bad Blood -- An original Batman story that features the introduction of Batwoman to the new line of animated films.
Justice League vs. Titans -- Another original story and the first of the DC Universe Original Movies to feature the Teen Titans.
I am interested in seeing how this plays out once it is or if it is even released given the big controversy over a variant cover earlier this year that made homage to the story by showing a frightened Batgirl being held with a gun to her by the Joker.
